While we are talking about S-E-X….

If you are under the age of 18, please do not read below. Yeah, I know. I just pretty much assured that anyone who IS under the age of 18 and happens upon this blog will now read below, because it’s one of those, “The light, the light, I can’t look away….” type thingies.

An acquaintance of mine who is writing a book recently contacted me to ask for some help with research. And so I referred him to a friend that I shall call MetalMan. I don’t identify people by name on this blog, as in the past I have been stalked and harassed by certain crazy people who shall ALSO remain unnamed, because if I say that certain person’s name, they will surely hunt me down again and . . I do not wish this on anyone. This strange semi-celebrity that comes with being an author is just weird.

MetalMan sent some time reading my blog, and then sent me this fascinating information about the LDS singles scene. He gave me permission to share it.

I was reading your blog last night and thought I might share something’s that are going on in the LDS singles community.
You may already know about these issues, but I will tell you anyway just in case:

In the temple ceremony there is a line that use to go something like this:  I covenant to have sexual intercourse, only with my legally and lawfully wedded husband/wife.
Now it reads: sexual relations instead of intercourse.

It gave LDS singles an out, so they could enjoy any sex except intercourse.   LDS singles could enjoy mutual hand jobs, shared oral sex, whatever, now there is nothing.  Couples are breaking up because they want to have sex with each other and they aren’t ready to get married, even if they are in love.

Some couples are getting married after knowing each other a short time and getting divorced in a short time.

Some LDS singles refuse to go out, because they know they won’t be able to resist having sexual relations with someone.  So they live in loneliness.

Some singles, after confessing to their bishops,  are being advised to break it off with their partners, if they are having sex outside of marriage, even if they are in love.

Bishops are asking promiscuous singles, who their sex partners are, then sending the information on to the partner’s Bishop so they can discipline that person.

In short, there used to be an OUT for Mormon singles. I did not realize this as a Molly. Although I was never a very good Molly. I always thought the private stuff was to stay private, and any kind of sex was a huge sin. Still working through those issues, even though I KNOW it’s silly.

But being a single LDS person is a tough road. Base human nature requires we touch other humans. Babies who are not held die. The human touch, and intimacy, is a very strong drive, and I know that even for those of us outside of the Mormon community, the intimacy of touch shared with another human being is one of the greatest losses of being single.

Now, the LDS Church would like to TOTALLY take that right away from all homosexuals, even while admitting that they do not believe homosexuality is a choice. WTF? If you know it’s not a choice, and there are already too many people in this world, why DO YOU CARE? Why are you spending millions of dollars to STOP people from TOUCHING each other, which is a very basic human need.

How can this be justified?

Religion seems to bring out the worst in some people.

And for others, it’s making them very, very funny.

oh good god. the mormon church needs to get over the sex thing. and furthermore, I’m thinking that all those bishops do is sit at their desks jacking off while people are confessing. At least when the girls do. “Tell me More” in that hidious voice they use. no wonder I left.

I’ve probably said this before here, in other contexts and about other issues.

But, yes, I’m going to say it again. It’s all about control. The institution, or at least those at the top of the food chain within the institution, want to be able to control everything the membership does, says and thinks.

It isn’t exclusive to the leadership of the Mormon church, of course. Some other religious groups do this. Some government leaders want to be able to do this. Even some corporations are starting to do this…I’ve read about companies that watch their employees even outside of work and will fire them for doing perfectly legal things on their own time.

Why is this? Glad you asked. Because the individuals who are in a position of power have some kink in their neurological wiring that makes them feel very good when they can tell someone what to do and they are obeyed. And because they are in positions of power in their various organizations, they can get away with this and sometimes, as in the case of the Mormons, have even converted it into an institutional norm.

Of course, there are people not in positions of power, institutionally speaking, who also have this kink in their wiring, so they just abuse people in their own lives. Sometimes they get away with it, and sometimes they don’t. The ones at the heads of churchs, governments and corporations generally have enough protection that they get away with it.

So, this is me, being cynical.

But I believe that it really is the root of the problem.

  3. Wow! MetalMan really goes by the ‘letter of the law’… haha! The mormon view of sex is so messed up! (most other religions have it wrong too). Even when they say “sex is something so beautiful and sacred” they ingrain so many messages in the minds of the young members that intimacy and sex is a negative thing. No wonder so many mormons have such a hard time with it. It’s the same thing the media does with body image. Media says… ‘Be happy with your body however it looks’…but then plasters pictures of beautiful people all over and talks about how sexy they are. A healthy body image has little to do with how your body “looks.” It’s all about the messages we’re sending our bodies (how incredible they are at functioning or healing). Wrong focus. Just like mormons with sex.

NOT TRUE! There is no line in any covenant that says that. Also, many christian churches do not believe in sex before marriage. And many churches do not believe in homosexuality. Its not just the mormon church. Catholic churches were out protesting against propostion 8. Get over it, get over yourselves and get a new hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Hee hee hee. Dear Believer,

So glad you are riled up. Maybe you will actually use your brain to THINK. And we aren’t talking about other churches. We are talking about the Mormon Church. YOU get over yourself, and the fact you think YOU have the right to deny equality to others.
