Coincidence? Sign from God? Look out! The lightning…..

So apparently, the whole hoo haa with the FLDS group is taking place in TOM GREEN COUNTY. I kid you not. And the hearings are going to be held at the TOM GREEN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. This is just TOO delicious for words.

You all remember freakTV polygamist wonderchild Tom Green, right? Who paraded all his many wives on the daytime TV circuit, and then was ASTONISHED when he was charged by authorities for having a few too many wives. WIVES he married when they were pretty damn young.

The SAME Tom Green who railed on those who would molest children, then when it was pointed out to him that his first “wife” Linda was only 13 when he married her, he said, “Well, Linda was different.”

Yeah, Tom. That’s what all the skeevy child molesters say.

Tom Green County. Wow.

Yeah, I noticed that. Considered that it could be a typo, realized it wasn’t, and had a good laugh. 🙂

Ok. I was not aware of this Tom Green and thought you may have been talking about the one balled man who used to be married to Drew Barrymore.

The irony of the place having the same name as the infamous other Thomas Green was not lost on me. Too funny. It is also weird when Mormons find out that Joseph Smith was married to a 14 year old girl, they defend it by saying, “That was the way it was back then.” NOT! If you show them the similarities of the polygamist today and point out that those girls are only 14 or younger, some of the TBMs will sadly and somewhat smugly respond “That is all they have ever known.” As if that makes it alright. When you have a general authority implying, in 2008, that some of child molesting, rape, etc. might also be the fault of the victim and they need confession, I don’t know what more I can say.

Census records and data concerning women’s age of estrus during that era both corroborate that 22 was a typical and physically appropriate age for a first marriage. If anything, 14 would have been far *more* outrageous then than it is currently.

Hey, Kitty, what general authority in 2008? I’ve heard the older talks, but there is a RECENT ‘blame the victim’ talk?????

Natalie, for the life of me, I can’t find the article I was reading that made me think that a general authority recently said the stuff about blaming the victim. So you are probably right to assume that it was from the archives a while back. I had best recant my statement to say, in this day and age and not 2008. I don’t want to be guilty of putting the bad mouth unfairly on a recent general authority. I can honestly say that I have never been able to sit through a whole session of conference in all my years as a TBM. I could never understand the mormons who would drive hours to Salt Lake City and be there in person. Yawn!

We used to drive there as teenagers, Kitty, because if you were LUCKY you couldn’t get inside the Tabernacle and had to sit outside and listen to the broadcast on the speakers, while laying on a blanket on the lawn. Those were the good old days….
